Professor of Pharmacognosy at the University of Uppsala, Sweden
and Pro Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

After my doctoral degree in Pharmacy at Uppsala University in 1978, I got my postdoctoral training with
Professor Carl Djerassi at Stanford University and Professor Paul J. Scheuer at University of Hawaii (1978-1981).

I was appointed Assistant Professor of Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy in 1981 and since 1992 I am
the professor of Pharmacognosy. In the 1980:ies I initiated marine pharmacognosy in Sweden with the aim to
identify structure-activity relationships with potential in drug discovery.

At the same time the collaboration with Tjärnö Marine Biological Laboratory and its late director
Lars Afzelius was initiated.

My research interests have focused on both ethnopharmacology with emphasis on anti-inflammatory natural products
and recently also exploring host-defence in plant and marine organisms for molecules with anti-tumour activity.
